Storage Ideas

PUNCH STORAGE:

The old punch design was called the "whale" punch because from the side its profile kind of looked like a whale.

To store the larger punches I bought a simple metal towel bar at my local building supply store.  I was careful when mounting them to space them far enough apart that I could easily add and remove the punches - too close together is a problem.

Stampin'UP! has a new punch design that makes storage easy
**They lock closed into a FLAT shape
**They have a raised circle on top that fits into the open space
on the bottom so they don't slide when stacked
**They have an image on the front surface so you know which
    punch you're looking at

RIBBON STORAGE:

This is a picture of how I store my ribbons.
**I find this to be really handy.  I can see all the ribbons
and its easy to slip out just one roll.
**Its also easy to re-organize them when I buy new ribbons.
I got this idea from Karla Anders who is one of my uplines.

I bought some plastic rain gutter at the local building supply store. It comes in 8 ft sections but cuts easily with an ordinary kitchen shears. It was really easy to do, I did the whole ribbon area by myself with no help. Be sure to check the size of the gutter, some is wider than others.

If you decide to try this idea be sure to also buy the support arms and End Caps. You'll need 2 supports and 2 end caps, one for each end of each section of gutter that you want to mount.

PAPER STORAGE:

Paper must be stored flat and ideally in a dark place.
There are certainly some wonderful storage bins available from a variety of sources.

When I first started stamping I just used the plastic file trays
(which I picked up at garage sales for 10-25 cents apiece).

There were a couple of problems with that storage system. One was that the paper was still exposed to the bright lights of my work area. Also, as I acquired more paper the plastic trays couldn't handle the weight. They started to sag and crack.

Now I store my paper in hanging files in a filing cabinet. The hanging files have clear plastic tabs for labeling the file contents so I use a scrap of each paper to label its color. That makes it really easy to find. I have a lot of paper so I also label the file drawers so I can remember which color is in which drawer.
